In truth, it was TOO MUCH of a success, as there wasn't enough time to get to all of the 28 participating businesses. Our cargo van was filled to the brink twice with monitors, computers, keyboards, cables and techno gadgetry of all sorts.
In the morning, it was Strutta CEO Danny Robinson and myself (Jordan) who set out with an empty van, working our way from east to west, starting at 611 Alexander, and getting only as far as Gassy Jack before the van was filled dangerously full. In the afternoon, Simon Pavitt of Headware.ca was my right-hand man, breaking his back hauling the gear until the second load was full. We continued up Water Street as far as the Landing, where time and available van space ran out on us, and it was back to Free Geek headquarters where a team of waiting volunteers helped unload the gear in record time.
Below is a slideshow of images from the day; at some of the stops folks were nice enough to help us get the stuff into the van and posed for some shots:

I was incredibly impressed with the participation of the Gastown businesses. If you asked me whether we'll do the same thing next year, I would say yes, but not without an army of volunters and even possibly a moving company co-sponsor. After all, after you've lifted close to 100 of them, those big CRT monitors can get a bit heavy:).
In the end, Free Geek was flooded with an enourmous amount of equipment, some of which will be immediately and properly recycled, and some of which will be refurbished and given new homes at other non-profit and volunteer organizations.
Big, big thank you again to the participating businesses:
Greedy Productions: The Lab with Leo Laporte
Sugden, McFee & Roos LLP
Catherine A. Sas Immigration Law Centre
Vancouver Academy of Dramatic Arts
Resource, An Interiors Company
Thank you all very much again for making this little idea into a HUGE success!

Great work - couldn't believe the crazy load of gear!
You looked like the Joads from the Grapes of Wrath rolling down Water Street with a tippy load of junk. Funny all that junk was once the finest and fanciest ducats could buy. Makes you wonder what the next decade will bring. The moving company co-sponsor is a great idea too!
