The second Launch Party event took place last week, and it was a tremendous success. After an early "after work" start at 5, things were in full swing with the likes of Handi Mobility, Sxipper, Something Simpler, Site Masher and Jiibe entertainng the crowd with their informal demos.

Big thanks go to our sponsors for the event (which of course includes us), for making it all possible:

Sun Microsystems Growthworks Strutta Layer 7 Technologies

Fasken techvibes

Several bloggers and photographers were working the room, including Phillip Jeffery of FadetoPlay.com and Rebecca Bollwitt, aka Miss 604, who both provided great post-event coverage on their respective sites. We handed out some Strutta t-shirts at the event, and Rebecca was nice enough to post a photo of herself in one the very next day (seen at right). To see a selection of photos of the event, check out the Launch Party Vancouver tags on Flickr.

LA entertainment reporter (and social media maven) Shira Lazar was on hand to cover the event with the help of videographer Warwick Patterson of Formula Photographic. Video coverage of the event will be forthcoming, and we'll be sure to update you when it becomes available.

The event was co-hosted by the guys from Twiistup, an LA event that is so similar to Launch Party Vancouver that it just made great sense to bring both groups together. The LA contigent made their mark in Vancouver, to be sure, working the room like the pros that they are, and even handing out Van Halen t-shirts to a luck few (thanks guys!). If you want to crash their party, Twiistup's next event is happening Jan 16, '08.

With this much interest and such a great turnout (close to 200 at the peak, which was at about 7pm), we're lookng foward to putting on the next one sometime in the New Year, likely in February. If you want to shake someone's hand for putting on such a great local event that provides such terrific visibility to our local tech scene, look no further than our own Maura Rodgers, rocking the pink Van Halen tee at right.

Yee-haw! Stay tuned for news of the next Launch Party event, coming soon.

vancouver rocks it.

the length of a hangover is a yard stick for how good a party is. i'm finally feeling human a week after my first LPV. that was some tech party. i have a feeling we were rocking it just a bit harder than the van halen show down the road.

there's lots of hub-bub going on now about the exploding tech scene in LA, the flow of tech investments and all of this damn networking. (see: http://www.entrepreneur.com/blog/entry/187936.html *or* http://www.latimes.com/business/la-fi-techla11dec11,0,4902503.story?coll...).

vancouver techies are referenced in the latimes article. i think there's a big story here about vancouver tech - we'll see which lucky publication picks up on it. the latimes article is now being referenced by the nytimes, entrepreneur and a whole bunch of bloggers (shouldn't it be the other way around?)

big thanks to Maura, Dan and the entire Strutta crew for having us up for LPV. it's not enough to rent out the Lady Bird Banquet Hall at the Holiday Inn and serve dry donuts and crap coffee while handing out business cards. this is something that the strutta crew obviously gets. it will be great to have vancouver peeps down at twiistup 3 in jan - we have to continue to work and play together.
